It is built strategically close to amenities like shopping malls, restaurants, schools, hospitals, and the historic city of St. Augustine – that way, residents can take advantage of the wider selection of shopping, dining, educational, cultural, and lifestyle options that the surrounding areas bring.

History

The area now known as Plantation Bay was once owned by Maj. Charles William Bulow, a wealthy businessman from South Carolina. Bulow purchased 2,200 acres of Florida land in 1820 with the intention of growing cotton and crops in the area. Unfortunately, Bulowville, as it was known back then, was caught in the crossfire during the Seminole Indian War of 1836. As a result, the entire plantation was destroyed. Although Bulowville Mansion remains in ruins to this day, parts of the plantation have been developed, including the land on which Plantation Bay was built.

In 1970, Marco Polo Park – Flagler County’s answer to Disney World – was opened here. However, the 5,000-acre theme park didn’t quite catch on among tourists and it ended its run permanently after only six years in operation.

Despite its early closing, Marco Polo Park managed to build a legacy of family-friendly excellence and highly immersive surroundings, renewed and infused with a new sense of purpose with the development of Plantation Bay. Opening in 1986, the community’s promise of luxury and exclusivity continues to the present, taking its place among the most well-known luxury golf communities not only in the Sunshine State but in the rest of the nation.
